Vanguard Dance Company was created in 1998 by Artistic Director Carol Abohatab, to meld the world of professional dancers with those dancers from the drum corps world. Under the umbrella organization of the Santa Clara Vanguard, which is a performing arts music and dance competitive activity, the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum & Bugle Corps has over 40 years tenure serving the community, and agreed to open its artistic capacity to include the modern dance world.
Performing in Choreographers’ Collectives in the South Bay, San Francisco and Marin, as well as producing their own concerts, the Vanguard Dance Company provides a venue for ‘aged-out’ color guard dancers and professionals in the area to dance side-by-side, learning from and growing with one another. The repertoire for the group varies from Modern and Jazz, to Contemporary pieces of choreography.
